In The Press:
For conventional French fare, try this old Ashland standby. Patricia and Douglas Volk, who took over the restaurant in 2010, have reinvented the space, with bistro-style dining at tall tables with stools, as well as a wine bar and specialty food shop. The kitchen serves small plates and à la carte items like Tomme de Savoie cheese with white port poached pears and Marcona almonds and smoked beets layered with chèvre and topped with radish sprouts.
Located just around the corner from the festival theaters, this has long been one of the finest restaurants in town. Exposed brick walls and old champagne bottles give Chateaulin a casually elegant appearance that's accented by Art Nouveau touches and dark-wood furnishings.
Chateaulin's owners, Douglas and Patricia Volk, wish to thank all those who have graciously posted such lovely reviews in the time they have taken ownership. Merci!
Customer Reviews:
What a treat. I had lunch there today and it was amazing. I had a sandwich I cannot spell that consisted of grilled striploin cooked to perfection with carmelized onions, tomatoes and spinach on a freshly baked Baguette with a (get this) Brie spread (but not too much, just a tease, perfect!!!!) and a balsamic sauce servied aside a house salad. Under new ownership this favorite restaurant of mine is clearly thriving!!!! Enjoy!
We found the Chateaulin to be a wonderful restaurant in the heart of downtown Ashland. The staff was highly trained and provided excellent reference to menu items and wine pairing. We especially enjoyed Lance, very personable and funny. If you are in Ashland and want a great meal, then you owe it to yourself to have a fabulous meal at Chateaulin.
